Transit Benefit Index: A Comprehensive Index for Capturing Externalities in Transit Planning

چکیده
This research provides a methodology for estimating the total societal benefit generated from substituting private vehicle trips with public transportation trips. The external costs of and were estimated using base case travel demand model then mode shift was simulated to calculate effects shifting one full transit unit (e.g., bus) mode. performed all origin–destination (O-D) pairs in region find O-D that resulted greatest net benefit. These benefits normalized automobile kilometers traveled removed network generate “transit index.” applied study city Bogotá, Colombia. A 102 scenarios simulated: 2 case, 10 sensitivity analyses, each including two provision alternatives. results contrasted cost new unit—a bus this case—revealing economic derived 1 year increased ridership larger than financial operator. suggest City Bogotá should consider further subsidies fares increase mitigate externalities.

A Composite Index of Public Transit Accessibility
Measuring ease of access to transit services is important in evaluating existing services, predicting travel demands, allocating transportation investments, and making decisions on land development. A composite index to assessing accessibility of public transit is described. It involves use of readily-available methods and represents a more holistic measure of transit accessibility, integrating...
متن کاملA New Customer Satisfaction Index for Evaluating Transit Service Quality
In this paper, an index based on customer perspective is proposed for evaluating transit service quality. The index, named Heterogeneous Customer Satisfaction Index, is inspired by the traditional Customer Satisfaction Index, but takes into account the heterogeneity among the user judgments about the different service aspects. The index allows service quality to be monitored, the causes generat...
متن کاملA New Performance Index for Evaluating Transit Quality of Service
This article proposes a new performance index called Transit Service Indicator (TSI), which could be used as a comprehensive measure for quantifying the quality of service of a transit system. TSI integrates multiple performance measures (e.g., service frequency, hours of service, route coverage, and travel time components) within a systematic framework. It takes into account spatial and tempor...
متن کاملA Decision Support System for Urban Journey Planning in Multimodal Public Transit Network
The goal of this paper is to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) as a journey planner in complex and large multimodal urban network called Rahyar. Rahyar attempts to identify the most desirable itinerary among all feasible alternatives. The desirability of an itinerary is measured by a disutility function, which is defined as a weighted sum of some criteria. The weight...
متن کاملPlanning Problems in Public Transit
Every day, millions of people are transported by buses, trains, and airplanes in Germany. Public transit (PT) is of major importance for the quality of life of individuals as well as the productivity of entire regions. Quality and efficiency of PT systems depend on the political framework (state-run, market oriented) and the suitability of the infrastructure (railway tracks, airport locations),...
